The FoCus training concept is particularly targeted at representatives of trade associations, regional development agencies and politics, who it is envisaged will subsequently act as multipliers by passing on their e-business know-how to small and medium-sized enterprises. The objective of the training is to help these multipliers plan and implement e-business more efficiently. They are supported with practical tips for designing and implementing successful strategies to encourage e-business adoption.
The training is based on an integrative concept. Students can gain an overview of ways to plan and implement regional e-business initiatives more successfully on a special Internet platform. A tutorial system (interactive online study modules) in the form of quizzes and checklists has been developed for this purpose together with multimedia software. Face-to-face training, a handbook and a CD-ROM version of the multimedia software provide additional opportunities to acquire knowledge offline. And for those who enjoy communicating in the virtual net, helpdesk sessions are held in Second Life, the virtual 3D online world.
The FoCus training programme was explicitly developed for teaching and learning know-how in the area of e-business promotion. Factual knowledge is imparted using a variety of media (WBT, CBT, handbook) and face-to-face training. The innovative nature of the e-learning solution derives from its blend of face-to-face and online learning. These two methods complement each other but can also be used independently. The aim of this mixed media concept is to allow account to be taken of different learning preferences (online/offline, printed/digital, face-to-face/online).
The multipliers' new know-how also profits their employers, their organisation and above all their target group, namely SMEs. The learning environment therefore also furthers the personnel and organisational development of organisations and institutions operating in the field of regional economic development.
